Red wine from the Rhône Valley. Luberon appellation 98% Syrah + 2% Grenache Noir. ECOCERT-certified organic viticulture Manual harvest Natural vinification Long aging
Le Claux is the historic heart of the Domaine. It is part of the estate’s original vineyards, which harvested for the Tour d’Aigues cooperative winery. It has been isolated and preserved, unlike almost all the rest of the Domaine from the outset, thanks to its very high quality potential and the originality of this terroir. Facing east-north-east and situated on very clayey soils laid on clayey marl subsoils that are rare in the Luberon, this vineyard grows very late. When snow shows up, Le Claux is always the last terroir around to see it disappear. This facilitates the slow ripening of the red grapes that make up the vineyard, and the presence of clay gives them an unmistakable northern character and a very interesting ageing potential.
Since the 2019 vintage, Le Claux has been made almost entirely from Syrah. The wines are always marked by a certain austerity in their youth, and require long ageing in wood to reveal and refine themselves. They age very well, marked as they are by their brown clay soils, reminiscent of those found at Serralunga d’Alba in Piemonte.
MILLÉSIMES
This is the story of a Burgundian winemaker who came to Luberon. He drew on his roots to make unique wines in the south.
A family call and a timely proposal put the winemaker back on the road. Today, from north to south and south to north, each vintage is written in the plural.
